PCTA Press for Passage of
Cable Theft Bill
With the new Congress come new personalities championing the cause of the cable television industry. The PCTA once again visited the august hall of the Senate to press on for the passage of the proposed legislation that is expected to lessen, if not totally stop, the theft of cable TV signal.
Led by President Allan Dungao, the PCTA group paid a courtesy call to Senator Ramon 'Bong' Revilla, Jr. at his Senate office last December 18, 2007 to request for his assistance in prioritizing the proposed Senate Bills that prohibits and penalizes the pilferage and theft of cable television signal. These bills are Senate Bill No. 1227 by Senator Juan Ponce Enrile, Senate Bill No. 347 by Senator Jinggoy Estrada, and Senate Bill No. 1053 by Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago. The said bills are presently submitted in Senator Revilla's Committee on Public Information and Mass Media.
Senator Revilla assured the association that the bills will be given priority and that his committee will schedule its hearing on the first week of February 2008.
Accompanying Mr. Dungao during the visit were Directors Jose Lobregat, Felipe Bince III, Philip Chien, Amelita Ledesma, and Secretary General Anne Manalansan.
