PCTA Technical Seminars
End Last Quarter With a Blast

 

The Philippine Cable Television Association (PCTA), in cooperation with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) once again held a highly successful two-day Technical Seminars at Days Hotel in Batangas City last December 6-7, 2007.

The PCTA Technical Committee, headed by its chairman, Engr. Julian Ventura, and technical experts, such as, Engr. Pacito Manlangit (MSC CATV), Engr. Neil Tagabi (Asian Vision), Engr. Joseph Arguelles (Asian Vision), Engr. Allan Mundina (Satellite Cable), Engr. Solito Mapolon (Skycable), and Engr. Norine Almazan (Skycable) conducted the simultaneous seminars which were conceived eight years ago to upgrade the technical knowledge of the people working in the cable television industry.

A Regional Forum sponsored by Creative Programs, Inc. was also held in the afternoon of December 6 to give the association a chance to interact and discuss industry matters with its member cable operators from Region IV. NTC Regional Director Lilia B. Dela Peņa was also on hand to address the issues and concerns of the cable operators in the region.

The topics discussed on the Cable Installers and Technicians seminar were Headend System, Outside Plant, Signal Leakage Detection, Two-way System and System Sweeping, Power Supply Maintenance and Drop Installation Standard. For the Broadband Technicians and Engineers level, the topics were Digital Headend, HFC Technology, HFC Design, Television System, Conditional Access and Data Communications.

An accreditation exam was given after the seminar to determine how well the participants understand the discussions, and those who emerged at the top were duly cited. The topnotchers for Cable Installers and Technicians were Rafael Estudillo (Cable TV Network, Inc.), Joseph T. Lising (Capitol CATV & Communication System), and Pablito Francia (Community Cable Vision Corp.). For Broadband Technicians and Engineers, the topnotchers were Allan Lutero (Royal Cablevision Corp.), Eusebio Landicho, Jr. (Pilipino Cable Corp.), and Policarpio Boongaling, Jr. (Batangas CATV, Inc.).
