PCTA Reaches Out to
Typhoon Ondoy Victims

It was a natural calamity like no other, seen or experienced, in Luzon, especially in Metro Manila.
In the morning of September 26, Typhoon Ondoy hit Metro Manila and nearby municipalities much like any ordinary typhoon does. The people were not alarmed at first; after all, this time of the year always brings several such climate disturbances in the country.

After a few hours of torrential and steady rain, however, everybody began to realize that Typhoon Ondoy was not an ordinary weather disturbance at all. By midday, almost the whole of Metro Manila and nearby municipalities were submerged in waist-deep flood water, stranding people on their houses' roofs and displacing thousands more when their houses were swept away by rushing waters.
Responding to an urgent call for help, the PCTA Board immediately approved a proposal to donate P100,000.00 worth of assorted medicines, sleeping materials such as blankets, mats, and mosquito nets, and bath soaps to the calamity victims. Skycable, for its part, donated an additional P50,000.00 to increase the fund to P150,000.00. The Board agreed to channel the donation to the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) for proper dissemination.
On behalf of the association, PCTA President Leo Wong personally brought and turned over the items to the Red Cross Rizal Chapter office on October 8. With him were PCTA Director Bing Ledesma, Secretary General Anne Manalansan, and secretariat staff Sam Lanuza and Ben Sarilla. Ms. Geraldine Repollo, PNRC Rizal Chapter Head, accepted the donation which will be distributed in various evacuation centers in Pasig City and Rizal Province.
