As all roads lead to Cebu City on March 20-23, 2012, the PCTA Convention Organizing Committee is ensuring that nothing has been left to chance as it prepares to host the landmark 20th edition of the event at the Radisson Blu Hotel.

  • How to Align a Satellite Dish Antenna

Since all satellites for TVRO and DTH (Direct To Home) are in geostationary orbit, they are positioned on an imaginary arc (now called the Clarke Belt in honor of Arthur C. Clarke) about 22,500 miles above the equator. This means a satellite dish always points upwards and in the direction of the i.e. generally southwards.

  • IF IT IS CLEAR, IT MUST BE THE CIGNAL!

This doublespeak reminds me of the Memorex Tagline in the ‘70s … “Is it Live?... or is it Memorex?  Many of us still remember the days of the cassette tape where the Memorex company sought to distinguish itself from competitors like Sony, TDK, RCA and others.

  • An Intensified Christmas To All

It’s that time of the year again for simbang gabi, puto bumbong, parties and gift giving.  A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all our friends in the Cable TV industry.

Hope the year 2011 has been a very fruitful year for everyone.  And I hope most of us have “moved forward” from the last convention.

  • PCTA TECHNICAL SEMINAR HELD IN LA UNION

In cooperation with the National Telecommunication Commission (NTC) – Region I, Philippine Cable Television Association (PCTA), Inc. conducted its second technical seminar event for the fiscal year 2011-2012, this time in San Fernando City, La Union. • WHY CABLE OPERATORS SHOULD GO INTO RENEWABLE ENERGY GENERATION

    A. Renewable Energy Power Generation

Cable operators had been the long time partners of electric cooperatives in towns and cities, as well as in franchise areas of MERALCO like the cases of cable operators operating in Metro Manila and adjacent provinces like Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite and Batangas.

  • Sweep Test: Needed Or Required?

Historically, cable television systems had quite a number of amplifiers in cascade, i.e. amplifier cascades of 30, 40, or even 50 amplifiers. Maintenance of such a long amplifier cascade is quite troublesome. Failure or degradation of a single amplifier in this long amplifier cascade became the “weak link” causing problems to every subscriber downstream from that point. The need for added reliability and increasing bandwidth requirements up to 1002 MHz, led to the need for shorter amplifier cascades.
